Camp America

3 counsellors in American colours laughing

We work closely with Camp America to give you the chance to work at an American summer camp, offering a fast-track on-campus recruitment process and student bursaries to fund the trip (last year we awarded 10 bursaries). Camp America is much more than a summer of fun and excitement. You'll develop skills in leadership, communication, teamwork and initiative - great for the CV! Having a great time is all part of the job, and you’ll get to spend your summer with like-minded people from all over the world.

Jasmine Butler joined Camp America in Summer 2018 and told us: "Working at a camp has taught me skills that I never thought I would get the chance to learn. I have made friends here that I know I will have for life and the kids are great. I can definitely say I have come back a different person in that it improved my life skills. I'm confident and independent and I now have an aim in my life - which I feel, with the skills I collected, I can achieve. Without the help of the university, giving me advice and the bursary, I would have never got this opportunity."

Here at Plymouth Marjon University we see Camp America as being a fantastic opportunity to enhance your employability, therefore we offer 10 lucky Marjon students the opportunity to gain a Camp America bursary to pay for up to £600 of fees towards the application.* Marjon has a longstanding relationship with Camp America which enables students to be not only financially supported through their applications but through the interview and recruitment processes too. All successful applications for the bursary receive fast track passes for entry at the London Recruitment Fair, bypassing the extensive queues enabling Marjon students to have the advantage over getting hired.

Camp traditionally lasts nine weeks (starting in May or June), plus you’ll need to attend a weeklong orientation event. After your placement is finished, you’ll have up to 30 days to hit the road and explore the USA.
