Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programme for the Diocese of Truro
Marjon University Cornwall offers flexible, part-time study for busy professionals seeking to develop their critical engagement with education. This Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programme for the Diocese of Truro, facilitated by university tutors with extensive experience in governance, aims to increase knowledge, understanding and skills of governors.
This CPD programme offers a Postgraduate Certificate for those who undertake the assignments successfully; or a Certificate of Attendance for those who engage on with the taught elements only.
The programme ethos is to support individual focused critical enquiry into the leadership of governance in schools and values based education. As a student on this CPD programme you will be supported in developing evidence-based, critical engagement with relevant research, theories and concepts, which you will apply to your role in governance.
The CPD is provided in a way that recognises and supports your other commitments. There are two modules. Each module will consist of two Saturday workshops and two evening seminars per module and be delivered over four months. The CPD lasts just under a year.
Assessment, for those choosing the Postgraduate Certificate route, is predominantly through investigations that allow you to focus on your area of interest in governance. You will be fully supported in completing any assignments by your university tutor. All taught sessions take place at The Old Cathedral School, Truro.
In your governance role you are expected to undertake a range of duties that carry accountability and responsibility. Completing this CPD will support you for your school’s governance skills and the Postgraduate Certificate can be used towards a full Master’s degree in Education.
Applicants for the Postgraduate Certificate normally require an undergraduate degree. However, non-standard applications may also be considered.
