Aaron Cusack

Role Summary

Aaron is a Senior Lecturer in Sport Coaching & Physical Education and is also the Programme Leader for BA (Hons) Sport Coaching. In addition to this, Aaron works as a senior coaching practitioner and educator for The Football Association (The FA). He has a wealth of experience and knowledge of coach education and understands the wide-ranging impact this profession can have on coaches and performers alike.  Aaron holds the UEFA A Licence in Coaching Football (Senior Level 4 Award), the FA Advanced Youth Award (12-16 age Youth Level 4 Award) and has extensive knowledge and experience of working within Professional Academy Football.

  • MSc Sport and Exercise Medicine, University of Exeter
  • BA Hons (1st Class) Applied Sports Science and Coaching, University of Exeter
  • UEFA A Licence Coaching Certificate in Football
  • FA Advanced Youth Award (Level 4 - 12-16yrs)
  • FA Youth Award


Teaching

Aaron teaches predominately across the Sport Coaching & Physical Education degree programmes focusing specifically on practice design, skill acquisition, performance analysis, participation coaching and performance coaching.


Research

Aaron's interests are based around the understanding of nonlinear pedagogy to facilitate practice design in sport and physical education. This approach lends itself towards developing greater knowldge of the constraints based approach designed to create challenging and supportive individual learning envrironments.  

My approach to high quality coach education and learning:

• High quality practice design inclusive of learning activities underpinned by research

• Underpinning coach philosophy in coach education by integrating professional and personal values tailored to learner's needs in diverse learning environments.

• My drive for continued professional development to enhance knowledge and understanding of pedagogical ideas to underpin my delivery as a coach practitioner.
