Plymouth Marjon University and Plymouth Argyle Football Club are proud to announce an exciting new partnership that sees the Argyle Women’s team make Plymouth Marjon their new home for the next two seasons.
As part of the agreement, the Argyle Women’s team will be based on the Marjon campus, with players benefiting from the University’s high-performance facilities, which include cutting-edge training and testing resources designed to enhance player development and improve their game. In addition to training and testing, some players will live on campus with easy access to Marjon’s facilities.
Plymouth Marjon University is also the official sponsor of the Argyle Women’s team for the upcoming seasons, with the University’s logo proudly displayed on the team’s away kit. This new sponsorship underscores Marjon’s ongoing commitment to the growth and development of women’s sport in the region, and its commitment to its local community.
The partnership extends beyond the women’s team, as the University continues to support Plymouth Argyle across various levels. The Argyle Men’s first team undergoes testing at Marjon, while the Argyle Academy has access to the University’s first-class training facilities.
Plymouth Marjon University is an FA Women’s High Performance Football Centre, recognised for its excellence in developing female athletes. The University’s commitment to gender equality and inclusivity in sport is at the heart of this collaboration, helping to foster a more diverse and accessible environment for aspiring athletes of all backgrounds.
In addition to the impact on the football teams, the partnership will also benefit Plymouth Marjon students. Those studying on sport, health science, and media programmes will have unique opportunities to gain practical experience through placements with Plymouth Argyle FC. Students will also engage directly in the testing process for the players in the University’s world-class Sport & Health Science Laboratory.
The new sponsorship and partnership deal comes after years of hard work from Marjon academics, particularly Caroline Westwood, Dean of Sport, Business and Media, and Chris Smietanka, Lecturer in Sport and Exercise Science. Their dedication has been instrumental in securing this milestone partnership.
The University’s Workshop facility on the BBC Southwest campus will also play a pivotal role, producing high-quality content such as game de-brief programmes, player interviews, and player photography. This collaboration will offer Plymouth Argyle FC and Marjon students invaluable exposure and experience in the media and broadcasting sectors.
“This partnership is a landmark moment for both of our organisations,” said Caroline Westwood. “By combining our academic excellence, cutting-edge facilities, and shared commitment to equality in sport, we are creating a unique and dynamic environment for our students, players, and the wider community.”
Plymouth Argyle FC's Head of Women’s Football Operations, Joanne Moseley, added:
“This partnership with Plymouth Marjon University will be a game-changer for our players, providing them with the best possible resources to succeed both on and off the pitch. We’re excited to build on this strong foundation and continue to push for success.”
The collaboration between Plymouth Argyle and Plymouth Marjon University marks a significant step forward for women’s football in the region and reflects the shared vision of both organisations to promote sport, inclusivity, and excellence at all levels.
