Plymouth Marjon University lecturer Dr Phil Brown has been appointed Vice Chair of the Devon Local Skills Accountability Board (LSAB) at the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA).
CIMSPA’s local skills project brings together employers, education providers, and employability-focused organisations to match supply and demand effectively and efficiently in the sports and physical activity sector through local skills action plans.
The organisation strives for the LSABs to be employer-led, so in his new role as Vice Chair, Phil will work alongside Chairperson Rhys Jones, the Chief Operating Officer of Plymouth Active Leisure, to develop a highly skilled workforce. Phil has long supported CIMSPA and played a key role in the early development of their Professional Occupational Standards.
The CIMSPA Devon LSAB will collaborate with local organisations to help address skills shortages so they can improve the experiences of people in the sport and physical activity sector. The current focus is on physical and mental wellbeing and how getting people to be physically active both in and out of sport has a positive impact on individuals and communities’ health and wellbeing.
Speaking about his appointment, Dr Phil Brown said:
“I’m delighted to take on this LSAB Vice Chair position. As a long-standing CIMSPA Education Partner I fully appreciate the importance of continuous learning in workforce development.
“Connecting education with our partners in the sector will contribute to the skills agenda and improve workforce capacity and capability. It’s going to be great to collaborate with all members on this exciting journey.”
Students at Plymouth Marjon will benefit from degree programmes that have been aligned with CIMSPA's Professional Occupational Standards. Combined with widespread professional networks and hands on experiences students will be ready for their careers with a wealth of experience and knowledge.
