Congratulations and good luck to Sport Development graduate Cody Cooke who has recently signed for Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL) Premiership side St Mirren FC. Cody impressed the 2017/18 SPFL Championship winners after his notable performances for Truro City F.C.
Cody told us: “My Marjon journey was fantastic start to finish. Alongside studying I was able to train and play football, receiving great coaching along the way. I gained valuable work experience which led to my first job at Plymouth Argyle Football Club as a Football Development Officer.”
Talking about his move to St Mirren FC, Cody told us: “Professional football was always the dream, but I’ve never been given the opportunity. This is a particularly exciting time for me at the moment and I’m hoping to stay in the game for a long time!”
Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Sport, Health and Wellbeing, Phil Brown, told us: “He was a brilliant student, managing to balance his study whilst playing semi pro at Truro, during his three years at Marjon. He was a really popular student with staff, his course mates, and across the whole university.”
Cody had completed a PGCE and was beginning to build a successful career in education before he got his chance to become a full time professional. Phil Brown continues: “It just goes to shows that dreams can come true, it’s never too late. By being consistent, applying yourself and developing your talents, you can be successful in a number of areas at the same time.”
