A celebration of the Arts and the LGBT+ community takes place this weekend in the Desmond Tutu Theatre at the University of St Mark & St John, Plymouth.
Organised by students and the Marjon Student Union, the LBGT+ Showcase on Saturday 20 February will include performances by musicians, actors and the first solo performance by transgender dancer Kay Browning.
One of the organisers, student Alex Silcox, said: “It is something that’s really important to me, so I’m very pleased the University is supporting the event and events like these are a way of celebrating the LGBT+ community without being preachy and this is a way of showing how the arts can inform and bring people together.”
The idea for the event came from a forum to discuss the University’s diversity events calendar and organisers are expecting over 100 people to attend.
The University is a Stonewall Diversity Champion, which is the leading professional lobbying and campaigning organisation for lesbian, gay and bisexual people. The event takes place on Saturday February 20 at 19:30 and is free to attend. All donations will go to Pride in Plymouth.
