Marjon is hosting an action-packed event aimed at Year 11 – 13 students wanting to learn about the many and varied opportunities within the sporting world.
The Careers in Sport LIVE on Tuesday September 27 is a successful national format visiting Plymouth which is free to attend.
It includes inspiring talks and presentations from leading sports and fitness professionals.
There will also be a practical taster sessions from professional sports clubs and National Governing Bodies of sport and incorporates the Careers Zone, Fitness Zone and Sports Zone.
Philippa Elford, Employability Co-ordinator at Marjon said: “Quite simply, if you are interested in a career in any area of sport, or if you just have a passion for health and fitness or participative sport, you will benefit from attending Careers in Sport LIVE!
“There is no other event quite like Careers in Sport LIVE. It is the UK’s only event aimed at helping students, sports enthusiasts and existing professionals explore training and job opportunities in the sports, fitness and wellbeing industries.”
Careers in Sport LIVE events are the brainchild of Harvey Grout, himself a former PE teacher, Senior Lecturer in Sports Education and PGCE PE Tutor, who said: “The idea behind Careers in Sport LIVE was to demonstrate to young people the myriad opportunities that exist in the health, sport and fitness industries – from coaching, personal training and teaching, to media and marketing, management and, of course, participation.
“Unfortunately, most young people are not aware of the huge number of options that are available to them as a career path; Careers in Sport LIVE is about highlighting these opportunities and making them real.
“At the same time, with the health and fitness of our nation’s young people high on the agenda, the Careers in Sport LIVE events also serve to encourage students to take up new sports and activities, whilst learning about nutrition and the importance of a healthy, active lifestyle in an informal environment.”
The Careers Zone highlights the diversity of careers within the industry and aims to provide anyone who would like to work in sport and leisure with the information they need to establish their career goals, and then to understand what they need to do to achieve their aspirations.
The Health and Fitness Zone promotes the benefits of living a healthy, active lifestyle and is an interactive area for students to participate in or observe the latest fitness crazes as well as get a body M.O.T.
Bring your trainers and join in with practical sessions that offer bodyweight conditioning, high intensity resistance workouts, weighted Powerhoops to work all of the body’s muscle groups or even sessions that combine boxing, kick boxing and dance!
Sessions will include; BOKWA, Powerhoop, Wildtraining, PortaGym. The event includes a Sports Zone offering visitors an opportunityto observe and/or participate in tastersessions in a diverse range of sporting leisure activities.Sessions at Plymouth include; Plymouth Arglye FC, Cornish Pirates RFU, American Football, Yball.
