As I watched the news this morning, I realised I was watching a university being rocked by the tragic news of two of their students being taken from them in a horrific way. I watched, what were obviously students from sports clubs supporting each other in raw grief, I watched the support team of a university wandering around the crowd offering help, I watched lecturers who had lost two of their students who would have been in lectures just a few weeks before. Two students who, I imagine, would have been an end-of-year celebration didn’t make it home. They had finished their first year, it was time to celebrate!
As staff and students of Marjon, we watch these images and relate to them so closely. Maybe you are a student, and you can see the pain of your peers. Maybe you are a staff member, and you can only imagine what this feels like. Maybe you are a parent of a child at university.
This hurts, and I pray it never becomes something normal for us to see on our TV screens.
Let’s keep Nottingham University in our minds today. Maybe you could email your equivalent at the University? Here is the link to their website: https://www.nottingham.ac.uk/
Please pray for their family, friends, lecturers, teammates, and support staff.
We stand with Nottingham University today and we pray for them:
Dear God,
We thank you for the lives of Barnaby, Grace and Ian. For the people you made them and all that they meant to the people around them.
Please be with The University of Nottingham today.
Be close to those who grieve.
Be with the students, the staff, and the families.
Please be their comfort today and in the days to come.
Amen
There will be candles in the chapel if you would like to spend some time today thinking of them.
Please contact me if you would like to talk.
God Bless
Michelle
